Why Do You Want This Job?

Hello… this is Mark from Connectzapp

When you’re asked in an interview…

Why do you want this job?

It may seem like an innocent question, but this is one of those interview questions that can be a bit of a curve ball…

That if you don’t answer it the right way, the employer will think ‘NOPE’ and you won’t be hired.

In fact, the way you answer this question could mean the difference between the interviewer cutting the interview short because they’ve already come to the conclusion you’re not the right person for the job,

Or… the interview going over-time because they’re VERY interested in you.

So here’s how to answer this question so the employer thinks you’re the right person for the role.

When an employer asks you why you want the job, they’re fishing to find out more about you, to decide whether you’re the right fit for the role.

Of course, the main reason we’ve applied, is for the money.

We’ve all gotta eat after all.

But that’s stating the obvious so beyond that the employer is looking for other reasons as to why you’ve applied for THIS job.

First up, they want to know you’re not going to leave if or when you get a better offer.

They don’t want to hire someone who is only after a stepping-stone to another better position.

Now, this may be your intention, but keep in mind that an employer’s goal is to find the best person for the role and for them that’s someone who is competent in the role and will stay in the position for the long term.

They’re after longevity and stability from the person they choose to hire.

I go through a fantastic way to cover this in my video on how to answer when an interviewer asks you where you see yourself in 5 years.

The answer I go through in that video is one of the best answers we’re found that not only impresses most employers, but is also one that pretty much anyone can use regardless of the job they’re applying for, so check it out. The video is on the Connectzapp channel.

To find it, type in Connectzapp into the Youtube search box and you’ll see it.

So to answer the question of why you want this job, so you impress the hiring manager, it takes a little bit of research prior to you sitting down for the interview.

Before the interview, find out as much as you can about the company and the people working there.

You can do this by looking through the company website, checking out their staff, particularly their management online and also asking people in your network what they know about the company.

If it’s a company that’s in the media, Google the media reports.

Your aim is to find out as much as you can about the company and it’s people so you can formulate a particular reason you can explain to the interviewer as to why you want to work for THEIR company.

For example, if you’ve applied for a job at a company and through your research you’ve found that the company takes it’s responsibility to the environment seriously, you could make it clear to the hiring manager in the interview that you’re really impressed with the company’s  commitment to the environment and that that’s the type of company you want to work for.

Or another example could be that the company is making great strides in a certain area and that you’re particularly interested in what they’re doing and would like to work for a company and with people who think the same as you do.

What you’re doing here is showing you’re on the same page as the company and the people who work there. You’re showing that you’re the same as them.

Birds of a feather flock together.

You’re saying to them, I’m with you. I’m just like you.

This says to the employer that you’ll be a long-term employee and fit into their culture easily.

This is EXACTLY what the employer wants to know.

So if you use the answer I give you in the video on when an employer asks you where you see yourself in 5 years, and then talk about the answer I’ve given you in this video, you’ll have answered the question exactly the way the interviewer wants to hear which will put you in a great position.

So try it at your next interview. I think you’ll be very happy with the reaction you get.

Remember, the easiest way to sail through an interview is when the employer already knows they want you because they know you’re a good fit for the job.
