How many hours does it take to become a flight instructor?

A commercial pilot’s license is required in addition to the extra training to become an instructor. Typically the time required is between 190 and 250 hours.

Becoming a flight instructor may also mean taking a refresher course at various times.

A certified instructor can expect to make:

  • Range – between $45,000 and $140,000 per annum (hourly rate – $21.63 to $67.30)
  • Average – around $55,000 per annum (hourly rate – $26.44)
